Hire Purchase (HP)

When you agree to fund the asset with a Hire Purchase arrangement, you must pay a deposit that ranges from 5% to 50% of the asset's total cost. The remaining balance, plus interest, is payable once a year over a set period, normally one to five years, over which you own the car.

Personal Contract Purchase (PCP)

A PCP differs from other loan types in that it does not require the purchase of a car right away. You can use your vehicle for a period of one to four years before deciding whether to part-exchange it, return it, retain it by paying a final ‘balloon' premium, or refinance it by paying a negotiated minimum residual value.

Lease Purchase (LP)

This type of finance is also known as a Balloon HP. Opposite the regular Hire Purchase, it offers lower monthly costs, with a down payment usually between 5 and 40% of the vehicle's cost. This is calculated based on the vehicle's expected future valuation and is repaid over a fixed time, normally 1 to 4 years. You have multiple options after the agreement: car acquisition, re-finance, part-exchange, or resale. By making a final lump sum payment (balloon) you purchase the car outright after the deal.
