The Future of Prestige Cars

Prestige cars are best known for their top-of-the-range features, comfort and luxury feel. The development of luxury cars is continuing to evolve and the best technological features are being added; from engine upgrades to infotainment. But what does the future of prestige cars look like?

Here’s what we are likely to see.

Fully Autonomous Cars

Many new luxury cars now contain advanced technology such as lane and parking assist. However, all of these features require the driver to keep their hands on the wheel as a safety precaution. The next step of this technology is making cars fully autonomous.

Although fully autonomous cars are a good few years away. When this technology is ready,  companies such as Tesla are more likely to release this first. Concept cars such as the Mercedes-Benz EQ already feature this type of technology, but it’s unlikely to ever go into production.

Electric Motors

With electric cars currently at the forefront of new car releases, a lot of car manufacturers are switching their current models to electric vehicles. Many more luxury manufacturers are continuing to produce electric models and have a mission statement to be fully electric by 2035.

Infrastructure for synthetic fuels is currently being improved. By 2026, the production will be increased to 550 million litres from 55 litres in 2024. Synthetic fuels could be another carbon-neutral alternative that can be used in current combustion engines. However, it’s going to be a few years until synthetic fuels are going to become more mainstream.

Technology

From the heated seats to navigation, infotainment systems can do just about anything. The latest technology to be equipped for luxury cars includes a heads-up display, voice commands and recognition allowing you to control a lot of the car without even touching a button.

Safety features in prestige cars are top-of-the-range. Adaptive cruise control with steering assist and BLIS (Blind Spot Information System) is found on a lot of new luxury cars. E-Call buttons are also now found in a lot of new cars, this allows you to easily contact emergency services if you are trapped in your car.

As safety and infotainment technology continues to evolve and improve, the newest features are likely to be added to prestige cars.

In the last few months, many manufacturers have revealed concept cars, showing the future of prestige cars. These cars have technology that has never been seen before and futuristic designs.

Although many of these concepts cars will never go into production in their current form, they can be used to show what future models are going to be based on. BMW recently announced the BMW i Vision Dee. This concept car shows what the future next-gen 3 Series could look like.

In December 2022, Audi announced the grandsphere concept car. This Audi A8-sized EV could be the replacement for the current A8. With eye-tracking infotainment technology, a 4-level self-driving system and 470 horsepower, the Audi grandsphere is a concept car like no other.

By 2025, there will be a production version of the grandsphere. Chances are, this car will not have the same technology as the concept but it does show what Audi is aiming for in the future of their prestige cars.

“Inspired by the future”, the Mercedes Vision AVTR is a high-performance car that looks like something out of a sci-fi movie. According to Mercedes, “this concept vehicle embodies the vision of Mercedes-Benz designers, engineers and trend researchers for mobility in the distant future.”

The Mercedes Vision AVTR has intuitive control that responds to approaching passengers using digital neurons. Using the control unit in the centre of the AVTR, the car comes to life when placing your hand on the console and can recognise the driver from their breathing. This is a concept car like no other!

Unfortunately, this car is likely to stay a concept car however, it captures advanced technology that has never been seen before.
